Professor Sotaro Tsuboi held a workshop at the Tochigi Prefectural Government Office to support disaster victims.Utsunomiya Campus

On July 1, 8, and 9, 2025, at the Tochigi Prefectural Government (Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture), Teikyo University Faculty of Economics Department of Regional Economics Professor held a workshop for disaster victim support at the "Regional Human Resources Disaster Prevention Cooperation Conference in Tochigi Prefecture" with the aim of building a cooperative system among related parties in disaster response.
In recent years, as natural disasters have become more frequent and widespread, there are limits to what the government alone can do to cope with them. A total of 80 administrative officials, employees of social welfare councils, and NPOs from all 25 cities and towns in Tochigi Prefecture gathered at the workshop and organized into groups including the three parties for each municipality, and then organized the problems and needs from the perspective of disaster victims, using Typhoon No. 19 of 2048, which caused extensive damage in Tochigi Prefecture in 2019, as a case study. The team then set up response goals based on the support needs. Then, based on the support needs, response goals were set and items to be addressed by each organization were presented, followed by a simulated information sharing meeting.
Participants expressed their opinions on "the necessity of passing on the experience of disaster damage and disaster response through drills, etc." and "the importance of disseminating knowledge on disaster response from Utsunomiya Campus as a university located in Tochigi Prefecture. We will continue our efforts to improve local disaster preparedness and response capabilities through surveys, research, and practical application in the field.
